Wanting to believe in a psychic is an innate need. A psychic or a Shaman is one of the world’s oldest professions. They existed before therapy, before psychology, and even before the English language.

When someone, who supposedly has the “gift”, tells you that you are going to have a good year and will probably meet your soulmate, it will make you feel good. No matter how much of a skeptic you are, or how much you pride yourself on being rational.

It’s because, on a primal level, we are programmed to want to believe these prognosticators. And sure, after much introspection, you can come to the conclusion that it’s just wishful thinking and tell yourself that you have a “healthy skepticism”. But it doesn’t change the fact that a part of your brain wants to believe the psychic and maybe even craves another reading.

I am a skeptic. I don’t believe psychics hold any special power. After all, people have tried to prove parapsycholgy for hundreds of years. One fine gentleman even offered a $1 million reward for anyone who can prove it, but the reward remained unclaimed and was discontinued in 2015. The psychic community calls the test too rigid and unrealistic – a claim which does hold some ground. After all, psychics tend to work with “energies” and “chakras”, which are very personal and their readings often don’t come true in literal ways, but what Carl Jung called Synchronicity.

But I digress.

I am a skeptic. And at one point of time, I used to laugh and dismiss anything related to a psychic reading. I used to put them in the same boat as spellcasters, witches, or black magic. Things that have absolutely no place in modern society and something I hate personally.

It’s because in my industry, that is the breakup coaching industry, spellcasters, priests and black magic practitioners are notoriously famous for scamming people. I’ve known quite a few people scammed by this which prolonged their breakup suffering more than necessary.

But psychics tend to be a little different from these charlatans and scam artists. And after hearing from my readers and clients and their experiences with them, I have come to realize that they can be helpful. This article is based on my conversations with hundreds of readers and clients who went to a psychic in their times of stress, along with my personal experience with psychics and my experience with human psychology – especially during a breakup.

As a result, I have started seeing psychics as more of a spiritual guide, rather than a prognosticator. A guide that can help you find a way forward in life. A guide that can help you choose a better path for yourself. A guide that can use spirituality and your innate need to listen to what a prognosticator says, to your advantage.

If that’s the way our minds are programmed to be, might as well go with the flow and use it to your advantage, right?

If you type something like, “Will my ex come back?” on Google, you will almost certainly find ads from psychics offering their services. And the reason these ads are there is because people tend to flock to the psychics for answers where psychology and common sense can’t.

Breakups are also one of those primal feelings where we feel helpless against our own instincts. Even though a part of us knows that we should move on, that our ex wasn’t good for us, our mind and body craves our ex so much that we feel compelled to want them back.

In the breakup industry, you will find charlatan coaches who would promise their “Secret Psychological Tactic” will guarantee an ex back. The same way, in the spiritual industry, there are spell casters who promise that “Black magic spell” will make their ex fall in love with them again.

But the breakup industry has some legit coaches who help people through a breakup. I know because I am one of them. I offer coaching and courses which have glowing reviews on the internet.

I think that’s the same with psychics. There are legit spiritual guides who probably use their intuition to guide their clients. Some of them claim to use energies, others claim to be clairvoyant, while some just use tarot cards.

And regardless of what technique they are using, I think the legit ones use some kind of intuition, a lot of empathy, maybe a little bit of cold reading and their knowledge of spirituality to guide you.

And in my opinion, that’s legit.

As long as their intention is to guide you to a better life rather than take advantage of you by promising you sure shot solutions to life problems (such as removing a curse), I think it’s okay (maybe even healthy) to go to a psychic if traditional therapy or self-help advice is not working for you.

How do I know if a Psychic is real or legit?

Unfortunately, the only way to know is to get a recommendation from someone you trust or visit the psychic yourself.

The one thing I will recommend is to keep an open mind and a healthy skepticism when going to a psychic. If you go in with the sole intention of proving the psychic wrong, your body language will be off, and as a result, the psychic will not be able to use their intuition to guide you.

But on the other hand, if you are fully vulnerable, and give away too much information, you leave yourself open to being taken advantage of by a scam artist who may use cold reading against you.

So whenever you speak to one, let the psychic take the lead and reveal only the information that you feel the psychic needs.

You’ve probably head “Psychics only tell you what you want to hear.” So if it seems like what the Psychic is saying is exactly what you wanted to hear (as opposed to what you need to hear), then that’s a red flag.

And most importantly, beware of someone who promises to “remove a curse” or “open your chakra”. I am still very skeptical of those practices because I just can’t see how they can really help someone. I see them purely as upsells that are preying on the fear that the reading session may have created.

On the other hand, if someone is selling you a scented candle or supplements, it’s not really that big of a deal as long as it’s a safe supplement. Because at best, it will provide nutrients and at the very least, it may have the placebo effect of making you feel better.

How would I feel after I visit a Real Psychic?

Interestingly, the way you feel after visiting a psychic can tell you a lot about whether or not the psychic was real, or in other words, helpful.

When you get a reading from a good psychic, you would come out with clarity. You may not necessarily feel happier or elated. But you should feel like you know more about yourself and what you need to do than before you went for the reading. And sometimes, that can even lead to a temporary sadness.

Another way to note that it was a good psychic reading is that you will not feel like going for another reading any time soon. Maybe you’d feel like visiting another psychic just to verify the reading, but it won’t be because of fear or a compulsion.

As opposed to a scam artist, you will most likely come out with a feeling of anxiety or dread. Perhaps with the knowledge that you have a curse that needs to be removed. And if the psychic was successful in influencing you, you would feel like visiting them again very soon to get some more cure for the supposed ailments they have diagnosed you with.

Conclusion

Psychics can be helpful. But be careful.
